Feliz Cinco De Mayo!
Cinco De Mayo! It is not the celebration of Mexican Independence as some are lead to believe: that’s September 16th. No, Cinco De Mayo commemorates a a very important battle that is not even a part of the Mexican war for independence. The Battle of Puebla was fought against the French and against great odds. General Zaragoza and 2,000 native born or indigenous Mexican troops fortified themselves in the town of Puebla. They won against the 6,000 French troops.
Cinco De Mayo is not a major holiday in Mexico, but rather has gained popularity in the United States. So, on this Cinco De Mayo, celebrate the little guy soundly beating the big guy with some delicious breakfast tacos, burrito, or quesadilla.
Feliz Cinco de Mayo!
